It feels like a lifetime since Brexit began. Yet it doesn’t feel like a distant memory like those situations where you can’t quite remember where you were when it started, I remember everything. The referendum campaigns, the morning of the result and the ongoing, tiresome debates. And after every debate I am reminded that essentially none of us really know what is happening. (politicians included).
That’s not what this post is about though. I’m not here to bore you (just want to make it clear, this isn’t an exception from my other posts – I’m always striving to not-bore you). This is all about things that I’ve found to be way more interesting than brexit. Some recent news, some old and some just a bit weird
So here are 7 things that aren’t particularly interesting, I’ll admit, but are definitely more interesting than Brexit.
1- The time when Ukrainian soldiers threatened national security using a fitness app.
It was February this year when the Ukrainian marines gave away a secret location by using a fitness app. Such an app does seem fitting for the armed forces and it’s understandable why they had taken interest in it but maybe it wouldn’t have done any harm to check the location tag permissions. The applica used GPS, presumably automatically upon installation, and allowed their enemies to find and track their frontline base. What happened next I do not know but evidently it wasn’t noteworthy enough to make any sort of mainstream news.
2- Pot legal North Korea
Yes despite North Korea being known for its strict rules and forced regulations, they don’t seem to have a problem with pot. You may have known this already, a lot of people are pretty clued up on their drug trivia, nevertheless it is definitely more interesting than Brexit.
3- UFO sightings in the Bermuda Triangle.
What’s more interesting than one weird thing? You guessed it, two weird things! Yep, if the Bermuda Triangle wasn’t already spooky enough for you, get this: not only are people disappearing but UFO’s are being found. People that have entered the deadly triangle, and been lucky enough to come out alive have reported sightings of flying objects, aliens and some even suspect there is a portal to other planets??? Sounds like a reach but even so, its an interesting one. Deffo worth giving it a google!
4- Barneys ‘ I love you’ song being used for torture.
Yep that right, the ‘I love you, you love me…’ song is used as a form of torture in Guantanamo Bay. Why, I do not know, it may be the contrast of positive melodies to negative environments which can be a lot to take for the brain. Whatever it is, it seemed to work pretty well when Daryl became improssoned on The Walking Dead.
5- Guantanamo Bay detaining an innocent man.
Another Guantanamo story. In 2001, a journalist named Sami Al- Hajj was detained for 6 years upon visiting the prison but was completely innocent. There are many stories of innocent men being taken captive, and with little to no public outcry. But yeah brexits still dominating the headlines.
6- Russia creating a doomsday machine.
Russia has just created a doomsday machine that is able to create 300-foot waves. It is said to possibly be one of the strongest nuclear weapons ever. Definitely making Brexit a very dull issue.
7- Prison escape isn’t punishable by law in Germany.
If you were ever to get arrested in Germany (I hope you don’t) but if you do, I wouldn’t worry. Your sentence may just not be followed up if you manage to escape. Why is this? Well it seems, ‘escape and freedom’ are basic, innate human needs and Germany believes you should be entitled to that human need. That’s FOR SURE MORE INTERESTING THAN BREXIT.
